Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams
I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played 'til my fingers bled
It was summer of '69
Me and some guys from school
Had a Band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far
(Chorus)
Oh when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Ya! I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life
Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin's down at the drive in
And that's when I met you, yeah!
(Chorus)
Standin on a mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
Back in Summer of '69
Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever, no
And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
I think about ya wonder what went wrong
(Chorus)
Standin' on a mama's porch
You told me it would last forever
Oh the way you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
Back in summer of '69
I'm in love with this song now. Learnt it on the guitar le =D. haha. I like to think that, in our lives, they'll be many times where we'll experience the summer of '69. Like right now, one has just past us. This summer of '69, was the four years of secondary school. I may have mildly disliked school at the start, but I've grown to love it like a second home. Indeed, when I look back now, that "summer" seemed to last forever. If I had the choice, yeah, I definately always wanna be there. Because? Those were the best days of my life. But hey, I'm only 17. They'll be many more summers of 69' to come along =).
When I listen to this song, I think of those four years. We always knew that day when school finally ended would come, and though we enjoyed the heck out of it, I dreaded it on the inside. No more school. No more class. No more classmates. No more friends. That's one thing I hate about the holidays. The utter, undesirable solitude. That's why I learnt this song. It allows me to relive a certain sense of nostalgia."Me and some guys from school, had a band and we tried real hard.", "And now, the times are changing. Look at everything's that come and gone. Sometimes, when I play my old six string, I think about you, wonder what went wrong."
Back in the summer of '69, I guess. I'll be back. We'll all be back. For the rest of our lives =).
